Leon joined Newport in October 2019 and he very quickly became integral to the team’s day to day operations. Leon’s remit was initially to assist in the preparation of case evidence in relation to the Eclipse transactions, but his role soon widened to encompass all group litigation matters and he also took on the responsibility for Newport’s contribution to the creation of the Katch litigation fund, liaising with fund, regulatory and banking counterparties in Panama and Luxembourg respectively.
Leon is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales having spent 8 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers; he holds an MBA with Distinction from Cass Business School at City University and an MA in Social and Political Science from Cambridge University. In previous roles he has headed up structured finance transactions in excess of £2bn and was also a Product Director, Investment Director and Investment Committee member for two investment funds with a total AUM of £1.2bn.
In the little spare time he has, Leon is currently studying for an LLm at BPP University, and is a keen if currently infrequent ultrarunner. He is one of only 5 Britons to have ever completed the 4Deserts Grand Slam, completing 4 x 250km ultra marathons in a single year. Time Magazine described the 4Deserts Grand Slam as one of the Top Ten Endurance races in the world, a list that includes the Tour de France, LeMans 24h and the Marathon Des Sables. Leon has also completed the Marathon des Sables twice for good measure, but insists he has no interest in getting on a bike for the Tour de France unless he can be certain of at least one Yellow Jersey. Speaking of flying colours, Leon also holds a ‘Cambridge Blue’ in football, something he is almost as proud of as his three children and four working cocker spaniels. Whilst his semi-professional footballing days may be behind him, his spaniels seem to keep him fleet of foot enough to keep up with his kids when it comes to football practice.
